What is digital slotracing? Well..Analogue,or one car one lane racing is where all cars have thier own seperate parralel lane. In order to run 4 cars there must be 4 lanes, six cars 6 lanes,8 cars 8 lanes... The power comes to the cars through the track rails and the power to the track rails comes via each drivers hand controller. This approach means that only one car can be controlled on any lane at any time... In order to have up to 8 cars racing..you need an 8 lane track!! This makes the circuit very wide, with extreme differences between the extreme outside line of a corner and the extreme inside. With digital racing, you only need two lanes..and each lane is part of the other lane! So it is effectively one lane. The lane is at full power constantly and the cars are controlled individually on that lane by the drivers. In digital, each car has a small onboard microprocessor that picks up digital control signals from the track. Each driver can individually control his speed and change lanes at special lane changing sections on the track,by pushing a button on his hand controller. This allows for realistic racing action!! When someone is in front of you ,in your lane..push the lane change button at the first available lane changing opportunity, and you can make the pass!! Digital systems also have displays to let the drivers know what position they are coming in a race, how many laps left to run, lap times etc.. and pitstop warnings, where you have to pull into the pit lane and wait while your car refuels or risk running out (your car power gets cut off!!) So digital racing is becoming a real enthusiasts sport.. It takes patience and skill. The most sucessfull racers know how to keep thier heads in the traffic and not get caught up in any accidents. At PJR we use a modified Ninco N digital system that allows 8 cars to race at the same time on a 2 lane track (red track in the photos) We also use a modified Scalextric digital system that allows 6 cars to race (blue track in the photos) So get some mates together and get some of that old Holden versus Ford rivalry going on at PJR Slotracing Finley It's a great sport..so come on in to PJR and give it a try!!
